Bio-Emulation with Composite Resin

Smile is an integral part of life. Patient expectations continue to grow, as patients come to expect a more and more natural-looking smile. Therefore, restorative dentists must continue to meet and exceed the challenge of creating natural-looking restorations.

Emulating nature is the dream of many a restorative dentist. Doing so is a challenge in both direct and in indirect restorations. The more a dentist understands the histriological aspects of enamel and dentin, along with age-related changes of the teeth, the closer he or she may come to emulating biology, AKA, bio-emulation. Light plays a major role in the perception of the natural tooth structure, and replicating that is a key factor in creating natural aesthetics.

"Emulating nature is the dream of many a restorative dentist."

Recreating nature, or bio-emulation, is a fascinating topic in restorative dentistry today, which deals not only with the choice of composite resin and the tooth prep required.  Important aspects of finishing and polishing are also key to creating bio-emulation in your restorative patients.

Are you interested in learning more about bio-emulation? For example, do you want to learn:

  1. To understand the tooth structure histologically
  2. How age-realted changes affect the tooth structure
  3. How to restore lost tooth structure by layers
  4. The essentials of anatomy replication
  5. Finishing and polishing techniques that create the best results

If are you interested in learning more, tune in to Dr. Mohan Bhuvaneswaran's course on AACD CEntral, "Bio-Emulation with Composite Resin." This 12-lesson course will take you step-by-step through the process of using composite resin to recreate nature for beautiful results, in an easily digestible and accessible format to fit your busy schedule... and your preferred device.
